Omaha Farmers Market
Farmers markets have seen resurgence in large and small communities nationwide in recent years, bringing agricultural products into cities and supporting the burgeoning "'farm-to-table"' movement. Nowhere is this more a part of the fabric of the community than in Omaha on Saturdays and Sundays. The Omaha farmers market traces its roots back to the early 1900's. Fresh, locally grown produce, baked goods and flowers was where the market started, and it has expanded to include candles, honey, soaps, lotions, art and much more. The farmers market in Omaha's historic old market area features more than 100 vendors and runs from May to mid-October every Saturday; and in Omaha's trendy Ak-sar-ben village every Sunday from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. Thousands of local consumers and tourists flock to these markets during the summer to take advantage of the items for sale, and also to be a part of the social interaction with local producers and artisans. The Omaha farmers market is our focus today on the Nebraska Nice radio show, presented by Nebraska Tourism, here on Destination Radio, every Saturday at noon eastern time on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio channel 147.
